“The Benefits of Reflexology” at Atwater Library during World Reflexology Week

The Benefits of Reflexology
Tuesday, September 24 from 6PM – 7:30PM
at Atwater Library (1720 Foxon Road, North Branford)

In celebration of World Reflexology Week (September 23 – 29), Julie Thackeray of Solutions for Wellness will host a presentation on The Benefits of Reflexology at North Branford’s Atwater Library (1720 Foxon Road) on Tuesday, September 24 from 6PM – 7:30PM. The event is free, but guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the North Branford Food Pantry.

While looked upon today as an alternative medicine technique, Reflexology — the stimulation of pressure points located on the feet, hands or ears — is actually an ancient healing modality dating back to as early as Egyptian times. It can be used either as a stand-alone therapy that can assist the body in returning to homeostasis and relieving stress or as an adjunct complimentary therapy to Western medicine. Other benefits include: improved blood flow, reduced anxiety, pain reduction, enhancement of medical care (i.e. diabetes and asthma), complimentary to cancer care, easing PMS and menopausal symptoms, and helpful for foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis. Young and old alike can benefit from the effect that reflexology has on the entire body because it promotes the relaxation response and the release of the beta endorphins to leave you feeling peaceful and relaxed.

Curious? From now through October 15, Solutions for Wellness is offering a 30-minute reflexology sampler session for $36.00 or 20% off a regular 1-hour Reflexology Treatment.

Acupuncture, Healing, Wellness

What is Acupuncture?

Developed by the ancient Chinese, acupuncture is a therapy that consists of stimulating designated points on the skin by the insertion of needles. Acupuncture is part of Chinese medicine which includes herbal medicine, Tai Ji, Qi Gong among others.

The Chinese found that certain locations on the surface of the body are related to internal body functions. In Chinese medicine it is believed that there is a network of energy that flows through the body and connects these locations/points by way of channels called “meridians.” The meridians are related to specific organs and functions and form a network which has circulating energy called “Qi” or “Chi” that moves like an electric current. As long as the energy flow is not blocked and has the appropriate strength and balance the body functions healthfully. Disease creates an imbalance in this system so that the signals/energy is weak, too strong, blocked, crossed, or not moving in the proper pathway.

Simply stated, acupuncture is a way of making balancing adjustments to the body’s “Chi” which promotes proper functioning of the physical body.

Acupuncture is done using extremely thin flexible needles made of stainless steel and silver alloy. There is often brief discomfort when the needle passes through the skin. The needles contain no medication – they are simply a tool to help balance the body’s energy.

It has been used for 5,000 years in China and is still a frequent treatment of choice for a quarter of the world’s population.

Most side effects are minor and may include: occasional dizziness – especially during the first treatment, slight bleeding after the needles are removed, infection at the needle site.

Acupuncture is a safe, inexpensive and effective treatment for many chronic disorders and can be used preventatively as well.

Reflexology, Relaxation, Wellness

Reflexology

The clinical definition of reflexology is “stimulation of pressure points located on the feet, hands or ears that connect, correspond to every organ, gland and function of the human body.” Yet there is so much that this doesn’t tell you!

Through the power of touch, this ancient healing technique can improve blood flow, increase oxygen saturation and lowered respirations, promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, help with pain and much more.

Energy Healing, Wellness

Energy Healing

Consider the power that past events, life experiences and relationships have on our present reality. Held emotional, thought and behavior patterns become blockages within the body affecting us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Energy Healing helps to bring your awareness to these blockages and assist you in seeing who and what they may be connected to, and how to clear them.
